When choosing a home drilling machine, look for these 3 key parameters
When purchasing a household well drilling machine, if you select the wrong parameters, you may not be able to pump water, resulting in wasted investment. Avoiding technical terms, you only need to focus on understanding these three core parameters, and you will be able to choose a machine that suits your conditions, greatly improving your success rate.
The first parameter: maximum drilling depth.
This is the most important indicator, which directly determines how deep your well can be drilled. You need to know the approximate depth of the local water table in advance. You can ask your neighbors or check with your local water department. For example, if you need to drill a 30-meter-deep well, you must choose a model with a calibrated maximum depth greater than 40 meters or 50 meters, leaving enough margin to deal with complex formations. Don't "step on the line" when buying, otherwise you may not be able to drill down when encountering hard soil.
The second parameter: Applicable formation or drill bit type.
Different machines and drill bits deal with different soil layers. You must know what kind of soil is mainly underground in your yard.
If it is soft soil, sand, or clay, choose a rotary drill equipped with an auger drill rod or a scraper drill bit, which is more efficient.
If there are pebbles, gravel or weathered rock underground, you must choose an impact drill, or a composite model that can install an impact drill bit. It is difficult to penetrate hard formations with just a rotating drill bit.
If you choose the wrong type, the machine will "slump", either unable to drill, or the drilling tool will get stuck.
The third parameter: power and weight.
It depends on whether you can use it conveniently.
Power: Mainly electric (220V) and diesel engine driven. Electric engines have low noise and low operating costs, but must have a power source; diesel engines are more powerful and are not limited by power sources, making them suitable for remote areas without electricity, but have high noise and operating costs.
Weight and size: Consider whether the machine can fit into your yard and whether you can move and operate it. Light machines are suitable for small yards, but their capabilities are limited; heavy machines have greater capabilities, but are more laborious to transport and operate.
Summary: First find out "how deep to drill and what kind of soil is underground", then match the "depth" and "drill bit type" of the machine based on these two conditions, and finally select "power and size" based on the site conditions. When in doubt, consult local experienced well diggers. Their advice is often the most practical. By grasping these three key points, you can choose the right machine and spend your money wisely.
