Maintenance guide after well construction: If you follow these steps, your well will last longer and have better water quality
After a new well is built, scientific follow-up maintenance and correct initial use directly determine whether it can provide stable water supply and maintain excellent water quality in the next few decades. Taking the following key steps is the best way to protect your investment.
The first step: the well must be thoroughly "cleaned", which is the "starting ceremony" of the new well.
During the drilling process, the well will be filled with sediment and impurities. Just pumping clean water for a few minutes is not enough. A high-power water pump is required to pump water vigorously for a long time and intermittently (for several hours or even a day or two) until the pumped water is completely clear and does not contain any fine sand. This step can clear the water inlet channel and form a good natural filter layer, which is the basis for ensuring future water output and water quality. Please be sure to supervise or require the construction to be done properly.
Step 2: Scientifically "activate the water pump" and seal the wellhead.
When installing the water pump for the first time, do not place it close to the bottom of the well. It should be placed in the middle and upper part of the water filter pipe section and keep a certain distance from the bottom of the well to prevent inhalation of sediment settled at the bottom. The wellhead must be tightly sealed with a special sealing cover or cement pier to prevent surface rainwater, sewage, debris or small animals from falling into the well. This is the most effective and simplest step to prevent water pollution.
Step 3: Establish a habit of regular inspection and recording.
Annual water quality inspection: Send water samples for inspection once a year to check whether key indicators such as E. coli and nitrate are safe, especially when used as drinking water.
Record water level: Regularly observe and record changes in the static water level (water level when not pumping). If you find that the water level continues to drop significantly, it may be due to excessive water use or geological changes in the surrounding area, which requires attention.
Listen to the sound to identify the location: Pay attention to whether the running sound of the water pump is smooth and whether the water output suddenly decreases. This may be a signal of pump failure or filter blockage.
Step 4: Comply with usage specifications and perform preventive maintenance.
Avoid excessive and continuous pumping in a short period of time and give groundwater sufficient recovery time. If it is not used for a long time, water should be pumped every one or two months to prevent the water quality in the well from becoming stagnant and deteriorating. Depending on the water quality, professionals can be asked to inspect and clean the well walls and water inlet channels every few years.
Summary: A new car is like a new car, it needs good "run-in" and "maintenance". The core is "clean, seal tightly, check frequently, and don't use it harshly". Investing a little time and effort in maintenance can pay off with a good, long-term, reliable well with clear water, giving you peace of mind when it comes to water use for decades.
