Owning a home well requires continuous and careful care to ensure a long-term, safe, and sufficient water supply. Routine maintenance and water quality management are two inseparable aspects. Following some simple but important steps will keep your well in good condition.


The core of routine maintenance: Protecting the structure and monitoring water volume.


Wellhead Protection: Ensure the wellhead seal or well platform is intact and secure to prevent rainwater, surface sewage, insects, or small animals from falling directly into the well. Check the area around the well platform for cracks to prevent water seepage.


Records and Observations: Develop a habit of recording water levels. Regularly (e.g., quarterly) measure and record the depth of the still water level in the well. If a sustained and abnormal drop in the water level is observed during the same season, it may be a warning sign of excessive water usage or changes in the surrounding environment. Also, pay attention to any significant changes in the pump's operating sound and water flow.


Pump and Pipeline Inspection: Perform regular maintenance according to the pump's instruction manual. Inspect the water pipes connecting the well to the house for leaks, freezing, or aging.

If the appearance, taste, or odor of the water changes suddenly, it should be tested immediately.


Proper use and disinfection: If the well is used for drinking water, necessary water treatment equipment (such as filters and sterilizers) should be installed. If the well is not used for an extended period, or after maintenance, or if bacterial contamination is detected, professional well disinfection of the well and piping system is necessary to kill pathogens.


Seasonal Special Maintenance:


Winter: In cold regions, exposed pipes and pumps require freeze protection and insulation.


Rainy Season: Ensure proper drainage around the wellhead to prevent rainwater backflow.
