Drilling Safety Operation Guidelines: Basic Safety Standards Operators Must Understand
Drilling operations involve various risks, including heavy machinery, high altitude, underground operations, and electrical hazards. Operators must strictly adhere to the following basic safety standards to protect themselves, others, and equipment. Safety awareness should be maintained at every moment of operation.
**Article 1: Mandatory Pre-Operation Inspections**
**Site and Environment:** Check that the work area is flat and firm, and remove any debris. Set up clear safety warning lines or fences to prevent unauthorized personnel from entering. Observe for overhead power lines and maintain an absolute safe distance between equipment and power lines.
**Underground Exploration:** Before commencing work, use professional instruments to confirm that there are no cables, pipes, or any other underground facilities below the drilling point. This is an ironclad rule for preventing major safety accidents.
**Equipment Condition:** Check that all components, including the drilling rig, drill rod, wire rope, and lifting tools, are intact and securely connected. Check that the hydraulic and electrical systems are normal and that safety protection devices are effective.
**Article 2: Personal Protective Equipment and Standard Operating Procedures**
Proper Attire: Safety helmets, protective goggles, puncture-resistant work shoes, and sturdy gloves must be worn at all times. Wear tight-fitting work clothes to prevent clothing from being caught in rotating parts.
Focus on Operation: Maintain high concentration while operating the equipment. Drinking alcohol, working while fatigued, or engaging in other distractions are strictly prohibited. Pay close attention to equipment operating sounds, instrument readings, and changes in the surrounding environment.
Maintain a Safe Distance: Keep your body and clothing away from all rotating and moving parts, such as rotating drill pipes, winches, pulleys, etc. Never approach, clean, or adjust the equipment while it is running.
Article 3: Special Provisions for Critical Operational Stages
Drill Pipe Handling: This is a high-risk stage. The machine must be stopped first, and special tools (such as slips and pipe wrenches) must be used to secure and manipulate the drill pipe. Never use hands or feet to directly stabilize or straighten the drill pipe.
Raising and Lowering Drill Strings: When raising or lowering drill strings, personnel should stay away from the area below the drilling rig and from the area where the drill string may swing. Command signals must be clear and unambiguous.
Electrical Safety: All wires, switches, and connections must be properly insulated to prevent electrical leakage. Always disconnect the power supply before performing any electrical work.
Article 4: Emergency Handling and Completion of Work.
Immediate Stop for Abnormalities: If any abnormality is detected (such as unusual noises, severe vibrations, stuck drill bit, oil leaks, electrical leaks, or instrument malfunctions), the machine must be stopped immediately, and the power source disconnected. Work can only resume after the cause has been identified and rectified.
Safe Completion of Work: After work is completed, the drill string should be raised to a safe position, all power sources disconnected (engine off, main power off), and system pressure released. Clean up the site and store tools properly. Unfinished wellheads must be secured with sturdy temporary covers or barriers and clearly marked with warnings.
Core Principle: Safety is paramount; everyone is primarily responsible. If unfamiliar with operating procedures, work must be conducted under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Never violate any safety regulations to rush the work or save time. A single act of negligence could lead to irreversible consequences.
