Rainy Season Drilling Construction Precautions: Equipment Moisture Prevention and Safe Operation Guidelines

I. Equipment Moisture Prevention Management

Electrical System Protection

All motors and control cabinets must be equipped with waterproof covers. Junction boxes must have an IP65 or higher protection rating.

Daily pre- and post-construction testing of cable insulation resistance ensures an insulation value > 2MΩ.

Distribution boxes should be equipped with rainproof canopies and raised at least 30cm high to prevent water immersion.

Hydraulic System Maintenance

Hydraulic oil tank breather should be equipped with desiccant. Daily check of oil moisture content (must be < 0.03%).

Outdoor hydraulic pipeline interfaces should be wrapped with waterproof sealing tape.

Spare hydraulic oil should be stored in sealed containers and allowed to stand for 24 hours before use and tested. Moisture content measurement

Apply waterproof lithium-based grease to drill pipe threads during downtime

Cover drill bits with tarpaulins when stacking them, elevating the bottom by 20cm to maintain ventilation

II. On-site safety operation

Site preparation specifications

Excavate a circular drainage ditch (50cm wide × 40cm deep) around the well site, with a slope >3%

Lay anti-slip steel mesh on the operating platform and set up warning fences around the edges

Test equipment grounding resistance daily to ensure <4Ω

Special operation control

Immediately stop operations during thunderstorms and evacuate personnel to a lightning protection zone (>30m from the derrick)

Resume operations after rain Pre-construction inspection of foundation settlement; equipment can only be operated after readjustment.

Nighttime construction lighting must use explosion-proof lamps with an illuminance >100 lux.

Emergency preparedness: A high-power water pump (flow rate ≥100 m³/h) and 200 meters of drainage hose are available on site. Sufficient reserves of quick-drying cement, waterproof tarpaulins, and other emergency supplies are maintained. Special emergency drills for the rainy season are conducted to ensure all personnel are familiar with evacuation routes.

III. Construction Quality Control

Mud Management: A rainproof canopy is installed on the mud circulation system; density changes are monitored in real time (fluctuations must be <0.02 g/cm³). Mud viscosity is tested every shift; the frequency of thickener addition is adjusted during rainy days. Spare clay stock is available. Triple waterproofing coating for drilling materials; Drilling parameter adjustments; Reduce drilling pressure by 10-15% in soft formations to prevent wellbore collapse due to water absorption; Increase hole cleaning frequency, circulating and removing slag every 3-5 meters; Control pump flow during rock drilling to prevent water erosion and wellbore instability.

IV. Health Protection Measures: Equip workers with non-slip rain boots, waterproof work clothes, and insulated gloves; Set up rainproof rest areas and provide ginger soup and other warming drinks; Implement a shift work system, limiting continuous work in the rain to no more than 2 hours.

By strictly implementing the above measures, the impact of the rainy season on drilling progress can be reduced by more than 40% while ensuring construction safety. It is recommended that the construction unit establish a special rainy season inspection checklist, with the safety officer checking and recording the daily progress.
