Home-Use Lightweight Drilling Rig First-Time Use and Safety Guidelines
I. Core Preparations Before Use
Site Survey: Confirm there are no underground pipelines (water pipes, cables, gas pipes), and keep away from building foundations and trees.
Equipment Inspection: Verify that all components are complete and securely connected (drill rods, power head, water pump), and that lubricating oil is adequately added.
Personal Protective Equipment: Wear a safety helmet, non-slip gloves, goggles, and safety shoes. Loose clothing is strictly prohibited.
Safety Warning: Set up a perimeter fence to ensure bystanders (especially children) maintain a safe distance.
II. Key Steps for First-Time Operation
Stable Installation: Adjust and secure the drill rig base to an absolute level. For soft ground, use thick wooden planks as a base.
Smooth Start: Start the motor under no-load, checking that the rotation direction is correct, the operation is smooth, and there are no abnormal noises.
Start Drilling:
Center Alignment: Align the drill bit vertically with the intended hole position.
Slow Drilling: Apply light pressure and rotate slowly to form a guide hole.
Gradual Increase of Force: After drilling has stabilized, gradually increase the downward pressure and rotation speed.
Maintain circulation: Continuously inject clean water or mud to cool the drill bit, remove drill cuttings, and protect the borehole wall.
Drill rod replacement: First, stop drilling and the pump, and lift the drill string.
Use a special tool to clamp the drill rod to prevent slippage.
Operators must stand firmly and hold on tightly to avoid injury from rotating parts or slipping tools.
III. Safety Red Lines to be Followed:
Never allow any part of the body to come into contact with the rotating drill rod or drill bit.
Never perform any adjustments, cleaning, or troubleshooting while the drilling rig is running.
Never overload: If abnormal resistance is encountered (such as hard rock formations or stuck drill bit), stop the machine immediately for analysis; do not force drilling.
Never leave the equipment running unattended.
Never operate the machine when fatigued, under the influence of alcohol, or after taking medication that impairs judgment.
IV. Emergency Handling of Common Problems
Stuck drill bit: Immediately stop pressing and rotating, and try slowly reversing or gently lifting. If ineffective, professional handling is required.
No water/drill cuttings: Check the water pump and pipelines for blockages or leaks. Abnormal vibration or noise from the drilling rig: Stop the machine immediately and check for loose connections and bent drill rods.
V. Post-use Operating Procedures
Remove the drill string from the borehole and thoroughly clean it.
Inspect and maintain the equipment, replacing worn parts.
Store in a dry place and take precautions against rust.
Key advice for beginners: Slow and steady wins the race. For your first operation, prioritize familiarizing yourself with the process and getting a feel for the equipment; safety is far more important than speed. It is recommended to complete your first well under the guidance of an experienced operator.
