Well Drilling Rig Safety Guidelines: Key Operating Points for Safe Operation

Operating a well drilling rig is a highly focused and inherently risky task. Following these key safety operating points will maximize your safety and the safety of those around you, ensuring a smooth drilling operation.

First Principle: Before starting the machine, thoroughly inspect the site and equipment.

Site Safety: Ensure there are no bystanders in the work area, especially children. Check that the ground is level and firm, ensuring the machine is placed stably to prevent tipping.

Underground Conditions: Always use a pipeline detector to ensure there are no cables, pipes, or other underground structures beneath the drilling point. This is a crucial rule for preventing major accidents and property damage.

Equipment Conditions: Inspect critical components such as drill pipes, drill bits, and wire ropes for cracks, excessive wear, or looseness. Check that all oil, water, and electrical connections are normal and reliable.

Core Operation: During operation, remain focused and follow procedures.

Personal Protective Equipment: Wear a safety helmet, safety glasses, sturdy gloves, and work shoes. Wear tight-fitting clothing to avoid being caught in rotating parts.

Smooth Operation: Start and drill smoothly and gently. Sudden loading or rough handling is prohibited. Pay close attention to the drill rig's sound, vibration, and instrument readings. If any abnormalities are detected (such as unusual noises, violent shaking, or sudden pressure changes), stop the machine immediately for inspection. Do not force operation.

Maintain Distance: Keep your body and clothing away from all rotating and moving parts, especially the drill rod, winch, and transmission system. Never touch or approach the drill rod with your hands or tools while it is rotating.

Drill Rod Handling Procedures: This is a high-risk step. After stopping the machine, use specialized tools (such as slips or pipe wrenches) to secure the drill rod. Never use your body or hands and feet to stabilize it. Operators should maintain a stable stance to prevent tools from slipping or the drill rod from sliding and causing injury.

Post-Operation: Dispose of the work properly and safely.

Shutdown Sequence: After work is completed, first raise the drill string to a safe height, then disconnect the power source (turn off the engine or power supply), and finally release system pressure.

Site Cleanup: Clean the equipment and neatly stack tools and drill pipes to prevent tripping. While the wellhead is not yet complete, clearly visible temporary barriers or warning signs must be erected to prevent personnel or animals from falling.

Remember: There are no shortcuts to safety. Always remain vigilant and responsible for yourself and others. If you are unfamiliar with the operation or encounter problems you cannot solve, stop work and seek professional guidance. One act of careful operation can prevent a potential accident.
