The well was drilled, the water arrived, and the yard instantly came alive.
The yard was still the same yard, but everything changed the day the well was completed. Before, the yard was bare, cluttered with junk in the corners, the ground dry and pale, and a few wilted vegetables barely clinging to life. Walking back and forth, you always felt something was missing—not something physical, but that vibrant energy.
The machine ran all day, the drill rod slowly descending. The moment clear water gushed from the pipe, you squatted down and scooped up a handful. Cool, sweet, you didn't care that it splashed all over you. The water flowed into the vegetable patch through a makeshift ditch, drinking deeply from the parched soil, and the wilted vegetables slowly straightened up. You stood there watching, and suddenly, a sense of clarity filled your heart.
The next day, you started working. You connected the pipes, bringing water to every row of plants. You sowed the seeds, planted the seedlings, and watered them thoroughly. Within days, green shoots sprouted from the soil, cucumbers began to climb the trellis, and tomatoes blossomed. The first thing you did every morning was to go to the well, turn on the valve, and watch the water gush into the ground, listening to the seedlings gulp it down.
Neighbors passing by would always stop to take a second look. "Your yard is really something to look at now," they'd say. You smiled, knowing full well—it wasn't just the yard that was interesting, it was the water that brought life. The chickens, with water to drink, crowed happily; the vegetables, with water to irrigate, grew quickly; and you, with water to use, had the energy to do everything.
The day the well was dug, what flowed through the yard wasn't just water, but the vibrant energy of life coming back to life.
