Safety Regulations and Risk Prevention Measures for Drilling Operations

Safety Regulations and Risk Prevention Measures for Drilling Operations

Drilling operations are high-risk activities combining heavy machinery, high-altitude, underground, and electrical work. Ensuring their safety cannot rely solely on experience and intuition; it must be based on systematic and standardized operating procedures and a proactive risk prevention awareness among all personnel. The core of safety management is to integrate preventative measures into every operational step, every job responsibility, and every individual's behavioral habits, with the goal of achieving "zero-accident" operations.

The primary safety regulations and risk prevention measures lie in the standardized management of the work site and the constraint of personnel behavior. Before equipment arrives on site, a systematic assessment of the site must be conducted: ensuring the ground is flat and firm, with sufficient space to safely accommodate the equipment, and clearly planned pedestrian and material access routes, with prominent safety warning signs. All personnel, especially operators, must receive pre-job safety training, understanding the equipment's hazardous areas and emergency plans. During operations, safety helmets, work clothes, protective footwear, and other personal protective equipment must be worn correctly, and long hair must be tied back. The most crucial rule is: When the drilling rig is running, especially during drill rod rotation or raising/lowering, no one is allowed to stand, pass under the drill string, or perform any other work. Body and clothing must be kept away from all moving parts. This is the lifeline for preventing mechanical injuries.

Secondly, strict control over the equipment itself and the dynamic operation process is essential. Before starting work each day, a safety checklist must be executed, including checking wire rope wear, brake and clutch reliability, the tightness of all connecting bolts, hydraulic line seals, and the completeness and effectiveness of safety protection devices. During operation, procedures must be strictly followed: raising and lowering the drill string must be smooth, avoiding sudden lifting and lowering; when handling complex situations such as stuck drill bits or dropped drill bits, experienced personnel must direct operations according to the pre-established plan, and blind operation is strictly prohibited. Electrical wiring must be properly installed, with proper waterproofing, insulation, and grounding protection to prevent electric shock accidents. Simultaneously, underground risks must be considered; for example, when working in strata where harmful gases may be present, advance detection and enhanced ventilation are necessary. Any equipment abnormality (abnormal noise, severe vibration, instrument malfunction) must be immediately stopped for inspection; operation with defects is absolutely prohibited.

Finally, establishing an effective emergency preparedness and a safety culture of continuous improvement is a solid foundation for risk prevention. Construction sites must be equipped with basic first-aid kits and fire extinguishers, and all personnel must be familiar with emergency contact methods and basic first-aid knowledge. Outdoor and high-altitude work should be suspended during severe weather such as strong winds and thunderstorms. More importantly, a safety atmosphere should be cultivated where team members remind and supervise each other, and proactively report potential hazards. Regular safety summaries and risk reviews should be conducted, integrating accident cases and safety lessons learned into daily training. Internalizing safety regulations into the team's instincts and habits, making caution a conditioned reflex, is the most fundamental guarantee for preventing risks and achieving long-term safe production. Safety is not a burden, but the most important investment in life and efficiency.
